Economics, Labor, and Employment panelists and special guests:

Dr. Sarah Bohn of the Public Policy Insititue of California. Dr. Bohn is vice president and director of the PPIC Economic Policy Center and leads research and engagement to inform California policymaking to support greater opportunity and upward mobility for workers, families, and businesses statewide. A labor economist, her research focuses on the job market, workforce skills, and the role of education and government programs in upward mobility.

Dr. Virginia Parks of UC Irvine, Department of Urban Planning and Public Policy. Virginia Parks, Ph.D., is a geographer and urban planner specializing in the study of urban inequality. Her research and teaching interests include labor and employment, racial and gender inequality, urban politics and policy, and local economic development.

Dr. Darien Shanske of UC DavisSchool of Law. Before law school, Professor Shanske worked as a financial consultant to California local governments; after law school, he worked as an attorney in the public finance department of Sidley Austin in San Francisco. Professor Shanske then clerked for Judge Pierre N. Leval of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit. Professor Shanske’s academic interests include taxation, particularly state and local taxation, local government law, public finance, and political theory, particularly jurisprudence.

Robert "Robby" Sumner, Chief Consultant, CA Assembly Committee on Business and Professions

Evan White, J.D./M.P.P., California Policy Lab, UC Berkeley. Evan co-founded the California Policy Lab because he believes that government can and should be the strongest force for good in society. Prior to the Policy Lab, Evan advised Richard Cordray, the first Director of the federal Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, on a broad portfolio that included fintech, debt collection, and financial empowerment. Before that, Evan fought against race and disability discrimination during the foreclosure crisis as Director of Fair Housing for Northern California’s largest fair-housing nonprofit.
