The CRB Nexus is a community of California researchers, practitioners, policymakers, and organizations committed to public policy solutions informed by data-driven research. We come together to connect, build professional relationships, and share information. Together we translate evidence into action and foster the next generation of public scholarship aimed at identifying and solving policy issues.
Come meet like-minded Californians as we build a research to policy community of practice!

General Government includes the operation, organization and election of government. General Government panelists and special guests:

Dr. Kevin Esterling of UC Riverside, School of Public Policy. Kevin Esterling is Professor of Public Policy and Political Science and the Director of the Laboratory for Technology, Communication and Democracy (TeCD-Lab) at the University of California, Riverside, and affiliate of the UC Institute on Global Conflict and Cooperation (IGCC). He is the past interim dean of the UCR Graduate Division. His research focuses on technology for communication in democratic politics, and he has interests in Bayesian statistics, machine learning, natural language processing, experimental design, and science ethics and validity.

Dr. Amy E. Lerman of UC Berkeley, Goldman School of Public Policy. Professor Amy E. Lerman, Director of the Possibility Lab at UC Berkeley, is a political scientist who studies issues of race, public opinion, and political behavior, especially as they relate to punishment and social inequality in America. She is the author of two books on the American criminal justice system—The Modern Prison Paradox and Arresting Citizenship (awarded a best book award from the Urban Politics Section of the American Political Science Association). Her most recent book, Good Enough for Government Work (awarded both the Woodrow Wilson Award and the Gladys Kammerer Award from the American Political Science Association) examines how perceptions of government shape citizens’ attitudes toward privatization.

Dr. Kim Nalder of CSU Sacramento, CalSPEAKS Opinion Research. CALSPEAKS at Sacramento State is a unique and ongoing academic investigation of public opinion in California, emphasizing the social, economic, political, and environmental issues that distinguish our state. The centerpiece of the CALSPEAKS initiative is the large and representative state-wide survey panel, which uses probability-based sampling methods to monitor citizens’ perspectives online. Similar panels have emerged to catalogue national points of view but CALSPEAKS is distinctive in its California focus.Blending scientific rigor with a commitment to making public policy more informed and responsive, survey panel enables researchers to rigorously capture what Californians think -- more quickly and cost-effectively than any other survey or focus group in the state can achieve.

Una Corbett, Deputy Director of Research to Governor Gavin Newsom.

Trevor Rodgers, Director of Research to Governor Gavin Newsom.
