Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park - A Town Reborn

Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park - A Town Reborn

Join the Government Publications Section for a live webinar on Colonel Allensworth State Historic Park - A Town Reborn on Thursday, October 12th, at 2:00 PM!

The California State Library is pleased to partner with the California State Parks for the second presentation in a series of webinars. A state park interpreter will guide you on a virtual historical tour of the town of Allensworth and its residents circa the early 1900s. Allensworth is a historic town founded, financed, and governed by African Americans and located in the southern San Joaquin Valley. This collection of restored and reconstructed buildings mark the locations of a schoolhouse, a Baptist church, businesses, homes, a hotel, a library, and various other structures. These structures also symbolize the rebirth of Colonel Allensworth’s dream of an independent, democratic town where African Americans could live in control of their own destiny.
