Historic Resistance: The Modoc War: Lava Beds National Monument

Historic Resistance: The Modoc War: Lava Beds National Monument Online

The California State Library is pleased to partner with the National Park Service for the second presentation in a series of webinars. Join Marc Blackburn for a virtual presentation on Lava Beds National Monument. The Modoc people called the Klamath Basin home for thousands of years. In the nineteenth century, tensions between certain Modoc and newcomers exploded into conflict. In the fall of 1872, the US Army arrived and fought with the Modocs for the next six months. Today, Lava Beds National Monument preserves and protects key features of the Modoc homeland as well as the battlefields of 1872-73. In this presentation, you will explore Lava Beds National Monument and its history.
