Choose Your Adventure

Choose Your Adventure In-Person

Join the California History Section for a new way to engage with our collection in-person: Choose Your Adventure! Sign-up for a Wednesday that works best for you and your team!

Choose Your Adventure, a collaborative storytelling activity using real history and materials from the California History collection of the California State Library. Loosely inspired by tabletop role-playing games like Dungeons and Dragons, Choose Your Adventure is both fun and educational. All you need to participate: a 20-sided die (which we provide), a little bit of history (also provided by us), and your imagination!
The first part of the session will be a tour of the reading room and the second part will be the activity itself. Participants will come out of this having learned about the different types of materials that can be found in the California History Section’s collections; new aspects of California history they might not have known otherwise; and ways to uncover more information on the topics. Your adventure will be our new Pedestrianism Race scenario debuted at last year's Archives Crawl.
This activity is available Wednesdays from 2 to 3:30PM. We can accommodate up to 6 people. If that day or time does not work for you and/or you have more than 6 partcipants, please email your Adventure Guide, Dvorah Lewis at dvorah.lewis@library.ca.gov. Otherwise, team leads can sign up for the day that works best for you and your team. When registering, you'll be asked how many partcipants including yourself. Only one team lead can sign up per date.
